MakeToys Battle Sentinel 09 590x472 Review: MakeToys MT 02P Battle Sentinel SG SP

The next entry from MakeToys’ Crystal City Chronicles Battle Tanker Series is MT-o2P Battle Sentinel SG SP. This Special Exclusive is a repaint/retool of the original Battle Tanker for Botcon 2012 Exclusive Shattered Glass Optimus Prime. Here is the review.

MakeToys Battle Sentinel 03 590x339 Review: MakeToys MT 02P Battle Sentinel SG SP

Alt Mode: In battle tanker mode, Battle Sentinel is exactly like the Dagger Interspace Army Commando. The only real difference is that there are even more bits and pieces that don’t really have an official storage space. I have no idea where to store the spikes or even a cool way to wrap the trailer with the chains. Aside from that, I’d say that the colors match Shattered Glass Optimus Prime really well… it’s just lacking any paint wash that makes it a perfect match.

Robot Mode: Battle Tanker was impressive, Army Commando I liked… Battle Sentinel is insane! Though this is merely a palette swap of Army Commando… the color choice, head, and weapons make a huge difference. The newly sculpted faceplate is perfect; the scar is fitting. This is actually the most “Optimus Prime”-looking head sculpt that I’ve seen in a long time. The gold chrome shoulder spikes can be replaced with missiles that are attached to chains; though I think these are cool, I feel like this is more appropriate for Army Commando. The giant yellow sword matches the dinky one but lacks the light-up feature that the original Battle Tanker has. The tanker armor though, I’m not a fan of… at least the lone the figure itself is great. Like Army Commando, this set includes an extra matrix chest plate that you can use with the original Battle Tanker… or even Combat Hero Optimus Prime.

Overall: Now that I have both Battle Sentinel and Army Commando in hand, I can’t believe that I was more excited for the latter. Don’t get me wrong, I stand by my original review and think that it’s alright… but Battle Sentinel is bad ass. The only downside is that this set isn’t paint washed like the Shattered Glass Optimus Prime. This is also an incredibly expensive set for what it’s really good for. I have no problem displaying Battle Tanker and Army Commando with their trailer armor, but it doesn’t suit this guy.

“I have no problem displaying Battle Tanker and Army Commando with their trailer armor, but it doesn’t suit this guy.”

… but then why did you say that you liked it more than Army Commando? You mix praise and criticisms back-to-back too much in your reviews sometimes. It’s un-orderly and a tad confusing

@ Anonymous criticisms of my reviews don’t bother me so much, but this one slightly does. it’s probably because my point wasn’t conveyed as well as it should. let me rephrase – i have no problem displaying Battle Tanker and Army Commando with their “gigantic backpack trailer armor add-ons” but the “gigantic backpack trailer armor add-on missile pod visor hump thing for the back” doesn’t suit Battle Sentinel. I still love Battle Sentinel, without that “obnoxiously huge power armor from aliens thing that is too heavy for the character and fictionally doesn’t make sense” much more than I do Army Commando… even though I accept Army Commando and display Army Commando with the “bloated whale of a castle armor plastic chunk thing with spokes on the back”

is that less confusing and more orderly now?

Totally. I would go as far and say that this add on is the figure/add on of January 2013. Whenever I look at my shelf, I can’t help but look at this guy with admiration. The colors and especially the CRACKED FACE …. I am just in awe. I think someone mentioned somewhere either in a written/video review that you can store the spikes under the targeting screen in tanker mode. The chain though, it’s really up to your imagination (or in my case the lack of it).

Whenever someone shows their Shattered Glass Rodimus, I am always tempted to pick up the KO version since the price of the original is just mind boggling. Still holding on and have not done it yet, but it’s getting harder ……..

@ Screecher giving in won’t hurt anything… but maybe your wallet
