The next Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron figure is the high-flying leader of the Decepticon Seekers, Starscream. Here is the review.
Alt Mode: While War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron Starscream’s Cybertronian alt mode isn’t the tetra jet that we grew up with, this is a pretty close approximation. I say that reluctantly because it really looks more like a rock with wing bits. Starscream’s alt mode retains most of the design aesthetics from the game model, but the proportions are dwarfed. Also, am I the only one that thinks that the guns look strange?
Robot Mode: As much as I find this version of Starscream a little on the ugly side, it looks pretty close to the game model. I just find that Starscream looks like he’s been riding a horse all day. Next, the colors feel off; the red is dull and the blue is oddly vibrant; the neon pink sticks out like a sore thumb. I don’t know what it is, but Starscream looks weird. Since this is a new mold, everything here is new to me. Though the articulation is weird, the sculpt just feels ugly. At least the figure is big enough to make Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Shockwave look dinky. I just wonder how Starscream manages to see anything with all that collar armor. The figure probably wouldn’t look so weird if it didn’t have gorilla arms or grumpy feet. An interesting note is that the figure has ankle tilts, but they’re not very useful; keeping the figure up becomes a delicate balancing act. On my first version of the figure, the knee cracked when I bent it for the first time; buyer beware. Starscream’s guns look even more out-of-place in robot mode, and I can’t accept them as substitutes. These guns combine to form a gun with two rotating barrels, but I can’t get Starscream to hold this correctly… what a scam.
Overall: Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Starscream isn’t a terrible figure, it isn’t amazing one either. If anything, I’m glad that the figure doesn’t feel as cheap as the figures from the first wave of this line. Unfortunately, it’s still ugly. I’m not sure if I’m going to bother getting all three Seekers, but I am slowly being seduced into picking up Bruticus.
